Get involved with National Numeracy Day 2024 where you live

15 May 2024

From rugby club fun, goody bags and light-hearted quizzes to dressing up as a number... there are tons of ways to get involved in National Numeracy Day events around the country.

Somerset Council on National Numeracy Day 2023

National Numeracy Day is run by the independent charity National Numeracy. We work with more than a dozen local authorities across the country, helping them to improve adult numeracy in their own areas.

Some of the events happening to mark National Numeracy Day around the UK include:

Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire County Council have taken over The Heritage, next to Gloucester Rugby Club, for the day and are inviting their Numeracy Champions along in the morning to accept an award for stepping up to support others with their number confidence.

There’ll be a chance to meet the other Champions, the Adult Education in Gloucestershire team, and the National Numeracy team, as well as learn more about the provision available to signpost learners to. In the afternoon, the doors are open to the public: come along, engage in fun numeracy activities, meet training providers and pick up free resources to support your learning journey.

Claire Hanson, Multiply Lead Coordinator at Gloucestershire County Council said: “We are committed to improving the lives of Gloucestershire’s adult population and raising their numeracy confidence has been recognised as an integral part of this process through our Multiply programme.

“We are delighted to be supported on this mission by our incredible network of Numeracy Champions and our Partners. We will be celebrating National Numeracy Day with an event to recognise our Champions’ commitment; through a network and award event.  We are also opening this event up to those learners who want to take the first step towards improving their numeracy confidence.”

West Sussex

West Sussex County Council will be in Queens Square Crawley on May 22 and will be encouraging people to take part in a Big Number Natter and the chance to win a £25 voucher if you can correctly guess the cost of a basket of shopping.

Cornwall

Join Seetec Pluss along with CHAOS Digital for a special one-hour broadcast highlighting the great work being done as part of the Multiply project, speaking with delivery partners, customers, and taking a closer look at the activities and support available. Lambeth

The Adult Learning team at Lambeth Council are running an online quiz on the topic of Lambeth and its numbers, e.g. history, statistics etc. Residents will be able to get involved through QR code posters displayed in Lambeth’s libraries and learning partners.

Brighton

On National Numeracy Day, learning disability and autism charity Grace Eyre will use their social media channels to share what their brilliant Numeracy Champions do, what being a Champion means to them and how they have used the training at work, as well as the impact learning more about numeracy has had on the people they support.

Grace Eyre will also use National Numeracy tools and resources and encourage a Big Number Natter at a numeracy session for people with a learning disability and autistic people on Monday 20 May. On Wednesday 29 May, they will be hosting a very special Celebration of Learning event to mark the achievements of all the amazing graduates of the Grace Eyre Money and Numbers course.
