New Welsh resources for children and adults

18 Mar 2024

The National Numeracy Day Number Heroes competition is now LIVE for 2024 – and for the first time ever, the resources are available in Welsh. Plus, Welsh resources for adults are coming soon, too, so children and adults alike can start feeling better about numbers.

Children aged 3-13 across the UK can take part in the competition, to win prizes for themselves as well as their school or youth group. It’s free to enter, and there is no fundraising requirement – so everyone can get involved!

Win £1,000 worth of prizes for your school or youth group!

Six prize bundles are up for grabs, each worth £1,000. Children from youth groups, nurseries, primary and secondary schools, and homeschoolers can all take part. There are also prizes for six winning children and 18 runners-up.

To enter the competition, children need to create a picture of how they will use numbers in their dream job or hobby. Maybe they want a cool career as a sculptor, a stunt performer, or a surgeon? Or would they rather dance or deep-sea dive?

Whatever their dream, we want to see and hear how it uses numbers!

The categories for entry are:

  • Early Years Foundation Stage: Open to all children aged 3-5
  • Primary A: England/Wales Y1, Y2 | Ireland Y2, Y3 | Scotland P2, P3

The prize pack for the SEND/EHCP category is suitable for a variety of ages and levels, and includes a voucher for the recipient to use on resources of their choice.

Still to come: Welsh resources for adults

National Numeracy will also be providing Welsh resources for The Big Number Natter.

The Big Number Natter is the first ever nationwide conversation about numbers. Everyone has something to say about maths, and sharing experiences is a great first step towards building number confidence.

Celebrities, influencers, experts, and the Great British public will all share their stories about maths. Whether good, bad, or simply hilarious, we all have a tale to tell about numbers.

With the resources provided, you’ll have everything you need to start a conversation about numbers, and the opportunity to change lives for the better.
