As schools take a well-deserved break for the summer we’re reflecting on a fantastic year for our corporate volunteering programme.

Thanks to their valuable contribution to the programme so far in 2024 we’re pleased to recognise the wonderful volunteer team from our partner S&P Global as the winners of our Volunteer of the Month award for August.

Ten S&P Global colleagues enthusiastically took part in our Numeracy Volunteer training and went on to deliver nine brilliant My Maths Story assemblies and support 16 engaging Maths in the Real World class sessions, inspiring over 1300 children across the UK to see the value of maths in the real world.

Feedback from the schools was extremely positive.

Marie Gray, class teacher at Baring Primary School in London said: "The organisation of the activities was very professional. In the assembly the volunteer’s personal testimony was relatable and the questioning was excellent, allowing all children to participate."

Mily Daley, a teacher from Pyrford Primary School in Surrey, said:“The assembly and workshops delivered were great. In the assembly the children were able to see the value of maths."

And feedback from the volunteers was equally positive.

Andrew Harker, Economics Director at S&P Global, said: "I felt very well prepared heading to the school. I really enjoyed the assembly. I had many questions about my life in maths as well as a lot of ideas about how numbers can be important in everyday life."

Another S&P Global volunteer said: "The content was accessible for the children, they were engaged and happy to ask questions. I experienced three different styles of delivery for the class session and the children engaged well in all. They know more than we think!"

A huge thank you and well done to all the S&P Global volunteers and the schools who hosted them!

As a Lead Supporter of National Numeracy Day and a founding member of the National Numeracy Leadership Council, S&P Global plays a pivotal role in championing the numeracy issue in the UK. Together we are ushering in brighter futures for all by inspiring all generations to celebrate everyday maths.

In the autumn term we are looking forward to welcoming 20 new S&P Global volunteers to the programme and look forward to continuing our work together to promote positive attitudes towards maths among children and demonstrate the real-world value of numeracy.
